Welcome to the land of the midnight sun
The mining town Kiruna is a product of the big iron ore that was found by the Laplanders as early as in the mid-17th century. Today Kiruna is a town in the subarctic area, planned and built for the long and cold winters and the short but intensive summers. About Kiruna
We welcome all SpaceOps attendees to join a visit to Kiruna in Swedish Lapland and a Technical Conference Tour to Esrange Space Center, SSC’s launching facility for sounding rockets and stratospheric balloons. Esrange is also the world’s busiest civil-use satellite ground station and part of Europe´s largest overland test range for aerospace vehicles. Since it was founded in 1966, Esrange has continuously developed and expanded in terms of business and activities.
About Esrange
Participants will get a unique tour of Esrange and in-depth presentations of both its history and its ongoing activities.
The final program will be adapted to the interests of the tour participants. There will also be opportunities to meet key staff and customers.
The Kiruna tour also includes a visit to a Sami homestead, a presentation of the unique ICEHOTEL and a visit to LKAB, the world's largest, most modern underground iron ore mine.
